Sir,
I have laid before the Postmaster General your report of 21st instant, and, in reply, I am directed to acquaint you that, as the post office of Hongkong is about to be handed over to the control of the Colonial Government on the 1st November next, His Excellency cannot entertain the application from Mr. Machado, the fourth clerk in that office, for an increase to his salary until that event has taken place.
